My Daily Skincare Routine

Posted on

It has been a journey over the past year or so developing a skincare routine that works for me.  I was noticing my skin becoming more sensitive, dry and was also having problems with uneven tone and texture.  This routine, along with a few treatments I will discuss in further posts, has definitely transformed my skin.  Although still not perfect, I am no longer totally embarrassed to be seen without makeup.

Morning Routine

Cleanse:  Yonka cleansing milk.

I have tried a LOT of cleansers and finally found this one at Bliss Spa right here in Cadboro Bay (you cannot buy authorized Yonka products online).  With citric and lactic acid, this mild face wash exfoliates off dead skin cells to reduce the appearance of age spots, wrinkles, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation. It also contains glycerin that works to moisturize and improve elasticity. It is delicately scented, silky and doesn’t dry my skin out.

Tone: Yonka invigorating mist (normal to oily)

More than a toner this alcohol and paraben free treatment will gently calm and tone the complexion. It contains lavender, geranium, rosemary, cypress, and thyme and smells amazing. My skin feels fresh and purified after without that dry cracking feeling some toners give you.

Moisturize: Zo Skin health Essential Daily power defense anti-aging formula

I remember being told by skincare specialist at Dermaspa this is a must-have product, and it did not disappoint.  It provides moisture and antioxidants so your skin is being protected from free radicals throughout the day. It’s a dermal grade product so it’s able to contain higher levels of chemicals and vitamins that all can be found in the department store skin care lines but at lower levels. It has a nice light feel and it’s not harsh on the skin.  I noticed a change in my skin within 2 weeks.

Protect: Colorescience® Brush-On Sunscreen with SPF 30 UVA/UVB protection.

I bought this from MD Esthetics, and wear it alone or over makeup. I use the medium shade, though it’s completely sheer on my skin.  I keep it in my purse and I put some on at lunch and on my way home from work so I am protected all day long.

Exfoliate: Tatcha Rice Polish Classic (Foaming Enzyme Powder)

I was so happy to find this product.  I had tried many physical exfoliators and they would make me break out, then tried a few chemical exfoliators and they seemed to work well but I noticed my skin drying out.  This is the perfect balance for me it’s a water-activated powder that transforms into a creamy foam for smooth, polished skin. It is gentle and can be used every day, but works great to get rid of the little flakiness I get around my eyebrows in the winter and keeps the blackheads away.  This product also has Sephora’s clean seal.

Note: If I find my pores are really clogged or my skin is feeling oily, I’ll use a packet of Dr. Dennis Gross’ iconic original formula peels.  They treat uneven texture and tone, wrinkles and fine lines, and enlarged pores, with five acids.

I do this about once a week, however, everyone’s skin is a bit different if you have really oily skin you may be able to use them every day as they are intended and skip the Tatcha rice polish.

Osmosis StemFactor Growth Factor Serum

This is my #1 must-have for antiaging.  Seriously it’s amazing.  This serum reverses aging by stimulating new cells and rebuilding collagen and elastin.  It feels airy and will give you a radiant, youthful complexion.

Reverse: Osmosis Renew Level 4 Vitamin A Serum

I was recommended this product by an aesthetician at Clearskin Victoria.  I’ve read more about the Osmosis line of products since I started using a few and the science behind them is impressive.  This one contains Niacinamide, peptides, and retinaldehyde.  Retinaldehyde is a stabilized version of Vitamin A that converts slowly to Retinoic Acid in the skin. This improves cellular-turnover rate, but in a less-irritating way.

Retinaldehyde repairs connective tissue, boosts collagen formation and increases elasticity.  Retinaldehyde also balances oil production.  This shrinks pores to prevent them from getting clogged and inflamed.  Retinaldehyde fights acne as well.  It has antibacterial properties  Retinaldehyde can kill the bacteria that causes acne and can also safely be used with other anti-acne treatments.

Moisturize: Luminous Tatcha Dewy Skin Night Concentrate.

I wasn’t using a night moisturizer until recently but I noticed with the change in the weather I needed something extra.  I decided to try this one as I loved Tatcha’s exfoliator. It also has Sephora’s clean seal and seems to be working for me so far.

Bonus Product

Chris and I both love Peter Thomas 24K gold eye contour hydra-gels for undereye bags. We got turned on to them by watching celebrity Big brother one of the contestants always was wearing them. They help improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles while lifting and firming the delicate eye area.  While also reducing darkness, and puffiness.
